Pakistan Defence Minister Admits Backing Terror Groups, Says “Did Dirty Work for the US”
New Delhi [India], April 25: In a startling admission, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confessed that his country has supported, trained, and funded terrorist organisations—acting as a proxy for the United States and the West for decades.
Speaking to Sky News presenter Yalda Hakim, Asif was questioned about Pakistan’s long-standing association with terror groups. His reply stunned many:
“We have been doing this dirty work for the United States for about three decades… and the West, including Britain. That was a mistake, and we suffered for that.”
He went on to claim that Pakistan’s track record would have been “unimpeachable” had it not participated in the US-led wars—first against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan and later in the post-9/11 conflict.
The admission by the Pakistani minister comes days after 26 civilians were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. India has blamed cross-border terrorism and initiated a slew of diplomatic countermeasures against Pakistan.
Earlier this week, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that cross-border links to the attack were established in the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi. It was noted that the attack was timed to disrupt peace and development in the Union Territory, especially after successful elections.
Prime Minister Modi, addressing a rally in Madhubani, declared:
“The terrorists responsible for this attack, along with those who conspired it, will face punishment beyond their imagination. The time has come to eliminate the remaining strongholds of terrorism.”
He asserted that the “willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the backbone of the perpetrators of terror.”
Adding to the tension, Khawaja Asif warned of a potential all-out war with India—an alarming remark amidst heightened diplomatic breakdown and public outrage following the Pahalgam attack.
This rare on-camera acknowledgment of state-sponsored terrorism by a senior Pakistani official has not only vindicated long-standing Indian claims but is likely to invite global scrutiny over Pakistan’s role in harbouring extremist networks.
