Pakistan Postpones PSL 2025 Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions
Islamabad [Pakistan], May 10: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially postponed the remainder of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), citing the “worsening of the situation” along the India-Pakistan border. The announcement came Friday evening following a directive from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Just a day earlier, PCB had announced plans to shift the final eight fixtures to the UAE, though specific dates and venues were not disclosed. However, as tensions escalated rapidly along the Line of Control (LoC), the board opted for a complete postponement of the tournament.
“The last 24 hours have seen a worsening of the situation on the LOC. The decision to postpone has been taken pursuant to advice received from the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif,” the board said in an official statement.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has also been temporarily suspended for one week under similar circumstances. The BCCI confirmed that a revised schedule would be released after consulting with Indian authorities and key stakeholders.
This development follows a sharp military escalation triggered by the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. India responded with targeted airstrikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) under Operation Sindoor.
As cross-border hostilities continue, both nations have witnessed heightened military activity, including drone incursions, missile strikes, and civilian area targeting—pushing cricket and diplomacy to the sidelines amid rising security concerns.
