
Pakistan Train Hijack: BLA Claims 20 Soldiers Killed, 182 Hostages Taken
March 11, 2025: In a major security crisis, armed militants belonging to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked a passenger train in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, taking 182 hostages and allegedly killing 20 soldiers, according to a Reuters report. The militant group, which has long sought independence for Balochistan, claimed responsibility for the attack and warned that any rescue attempts by Pakistan’s military would result in executions.

The attack occurred on Tuesday as the Jaffar Express was en route from Quetta to Peshawar, passing through a mountainous region with 17 tunnels. Reports indicate that the militants bombed the railway tracks before storming the train, forcing it to halt at Tunnel Number 8.

2️⃣ Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, calling the perpetrators “beasts” and declaring a state of emergency at Sibi Hospital.
3️⃣ Around 450 passengers were on board, including women and children, according to railway officials in Quetta.
4️⃣ Government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed reports of intense firing inside the train.
5️⃣ The train was intercepted inside Tunnel Number 8, a known security risk area where trains slow down due to rocky terrain.
6️⃣ Police official Mukhtar Ahmed stated that the location is remote and accessible only by foot, making a swift rescue operation extremely challenging.
7️⃣ The train’s journey from Quetta to Peshawar was expected to last over 30 hours, but was disrupted soon after departure at 9:00 AM.
8️⃣ BLA militants bombed the railway tracks before taking control of the train and releasing civilian passengers, particularly women, children, and elderly Baloch passengers.
9️⃣ Pakistan’s military is on high alert, with security forces attempting to assess the hostage situation and possible negotiation options.
