Pakistan Violates Ceasefire for Fifth Consecutive Night Amid Soaring Tensions with India
New Delhi, April 29, 2025 —
For the fifth consecutive night, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a “measured and effective” response from the Indian Army, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The latest incidents occurred in areas opposite Kupwara and Baramulla districts, as well as the Akhnoor sector.
“During the night of April 28-29, the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing across the LoC. The Indian Army responded appropriately to the provocation,” the Army said in a statement.

Since Thursday night, Pakistani forces have been targeting Indian positions along the LoC. No casualties have been reported so far.
The ceasefire violations come in the wake of India’s strong retaliatory measures against Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead, including one Nepali national. These measures include the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari land border, and the expulsion of Pakistani military attachés.

In retaliation, Pakistan threatened to suspend all bilateral agreements with India, including the 1972 Simla Accord, which defines the LoC between the two countries.
India Slams Pakistan at UN
Amid these escalating tensions, India took a strong stand at the United Nations after Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif admitted in a television interview that Pakistan had historically supported, trained, and funded terrorist organisations.
“We have been doing this dirty work for the US for the past three decades, including the West and the UK,” Asif said during the interview.
Responding at the UN, Ambassador Yojna Patel, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative, said, “This open confession exposes Pakistan as a rogue state fueling global terrorism. The world can no longer turn a blind eye.”
She also expressed gratitude for the international community’s “strong and unequivocal support” to India following the Pahalgam attack, calling it a testimony to global zero-tolerance toward terrorism.
