Para-archer Harvinder Singh made history by winning a gold medal in the individual recurve para-archery event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, defeating Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek 6-0 in the final.
This achievement makes Harvinder the first Indian to win a medal in archery across both the Olympics and Paralympics. He had also secured a bronze medal in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, marking his second consecutive podium finish.
With Harvinder’s victory, India’s medal tally at the Paris Paralympics rose to 22, including four gold, eight silver, and ten bronze medals, placing the country 15th in the rankings. This surpasses India’s previous best medal haul of 19 at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. Additionally, para-athlete Sachin Khilari won a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 final with a 16.32-meter throw, setting a new area best.
India’s contingent has had a remarkable showing so far, with the potential to extend this record as more events unfold.
