Shubman Gill praised for his mentorship, captaincy, and consistent run-making as Gujarat Titans eye another dominant finish in IPL 2024.
New Delhi, May 18 — As Gujarat Titans (GT) gear up to take on Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, assistant coach Parthiv Patel has showered praise on skipper Shubman Gill for his outstanding form with the bat and emerging leadership qualities in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Patel lauded Gill’s composure, on-field performance, and influence within the team. “He’s been fantastic,” Patel said. “The way he’s been batting and managing the group—there’s no need for special mention. He’s scoring runs consistently, proactive on the field, and deeply involved off the field as well.”
Patel emphasized Gill’s presence as a true leader in the dressing room, highlighting his mentorship of younger players. “You can feel Shubman Gill, the captain, in the dressing room. He spends a lot of time guiding the youngsters, which is exactly what you want from a leader,” he added.
Shubman Gill, 24, has been the pillar of GT’s batting lineup. In IPL 2024, he has already amassed 508 runs in 11 innings, including five half-centuries. With an IPL career tally of 3,724 runs from 114 matches at an average of 39.20 and a strike rate of 137.77, Gill boasts four centuries and 25 fifties.
His career-best season came in 2023, where he scored 890 runs in 17 innings, making him the second-highest run-scorer in a single IPL edition. Under his leadership, GT reached the finals that year.
Currently, Gujarat Titans sit comfortably in second place on the IPL 2024 points table, with eight wins from 11 matches, securing 16 points. As they face a must-win Delhi Capitals side, Gill’s form and captaincy could once again prove decisive in GT’s march toward the playoffs.
