Following a massive financial setback from hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is implementing cost-cutting measures, including reduced match fees and downgraded accommodations.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly suffered a staggering loss of $85 million (₹869 crore) from hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, leading to drastic financial cutbacks. The board’s extravagant spending on venue upgrades and event preparations failed to generate substantial returns, resulting in an 85% loss on their investment.

Why Did PCB Incur Such Huge Losses?
- Pakistan spent ₹4800 crore (USD 58 million) on stadium upgrades in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi, 50% more than the anticipated budget.
- An additional ₹3300 crore (USD 40 million) was spent on event preparations.
- Total earnings amounted to just ₹600 crore (USD 6 million) from the ICC’s hosting fee, with minimal revenue from ticket sales and sponsorships.
The limited number of home matches also contributed to the losses. Pakistan played just one match at home (vs New Zealand in Lahore) before traveling to Dubai for their remaining games.

The Aftermath: Cost-Cutting Measures Implemented
Following these financial setbacks, the PCB has introduced a series of budget reductions:
- Match fees for domestic T20 players slashed by 90% (from ₹40,000 to ₹10,000).
- Reserve player payments reduced by 87.5%.
- Elimination of 5-star hotel accommodations for domestic tournaments, replacing them with budget-friendly alternatives.
PCB Chairman Intervenes
As per reports from Pakistan’s Dawn, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has stepped in, ordering a reassessment of the match fee reductions, though the overall budgetary constraints remain in place.

With Pakistan cricket already facing on-field struggles, this financial crisis could further impact player morale and infrastructure development. The PCB will now have to rework its revenue models to sustain long-term cricketing operations.
