This interaction took place on the sidelines of the 51st G7 Summit, where India was invited as a partner nation. Both leaders later posted on X (formerly Twitter), reaffirming the deepening India-Italy partnership.
“India’s friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger, greatly benefitting our people,” wrote PM Modi.

PM Modi’s presence at the G7 2025 Summit in Canada marks his sixth consecutive participation at the summit. On the first day, he met newly elected Canadian PM Mark Carney, who praised India’s economic rise and global leadership.

Carney said:
“PM Modi’s presence reflects the size, dynamism, and technological strength of the Indian economy and its leadership role globally.”
This visit also marks PM Modi’s first trip to Canada in a decade, and is part of a three-nation diplomatic tour. Prior to Canada, Modi visited Cyprus, where he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III — the island nation’s highest civilian honour.
After the G7 summit, PM Modi is set to travel to Croatia for the final leg of his tour.
