Putin Assassination Attempt? Explosion Near FSB HQ Involving Russian President’s Limousine Sparks Speculation

Viral video of a burning Aurus Senat near Moscow’s FSB headquarters raises concerns of a possible attack on President Putin amid Ukraine ceasefire talks

March 30, 2025: A massive explosion involving a luxury car from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s fleet has sparked widespread speculation about a possible assassination attempt in Moscow. The incident occurred on March 29 near the Federal Security Service (FSB) headquarters close to Lubyanka Square.

The car in question, a £275,000 Aurus Senat limousine, is believed to be part of the Russian president’s official convoy. A viral video circulating on social media shows the front section of the vehicle engulfed in thick smoke and flames, with workers attempting to extinguish the fire using extinguishers and water.

While no official confirmation has been issued about who was inside the vehicle at the time, no injuries have been reported, as per British outlet The Sun.

Eyewitnesses say the fire is believed to have originated from the engine bay, later spreading to the cabin. The timing and location of the incident—so close to Russia’s top intelligence agency—have triggered intense speculation across social media, especially amid escalating tensions in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

The Centre for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) and other international observers have raised questions about whether this could be part of a broader security threat to Russia’s top leadership.

War Context

The explosion comes as Russia and Ukraine brace for renewed conflict, with both sides accusing each other of striking energy infrastructure and violating ceasefire understandings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently alleged that Russia is stalling peace negotiations while preparing for new offensives, particularly in the northeast.

Zelensky also rejected Russian President Putin’s proposed “transitional administration” in Ukraine, calling it a delay tactic under the guise of diplomacy.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump continues to press both countries to agree on a ceasefire, even as aerial strikes and skirmishes escalate across the 1,000-kilometre front line.

As investigations continue, the incident near the FSB HQ is being closely watched by global intelligence circles, with many wondering whether this is an isolated technical failure—or a warning sign of deeper unrest within Russia.
