“Rachin Ravindra Rewrites History”—Becomes New Zealand’s Most Successful Batter in ICC ODI Events

Rising star Rachin Ravindra surpasses Kane Williamson and Nathan Astle to become New Zealand’s leading century-maker in ICC ODI events, guiding his team to the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Rawalpindi [Pakistan], February 25: Rachin Ravindra has etched his name in New Zealand’s cricketing history by becoming the country’s most successful batter in ICC ODI events. With a blistering 112 off 105 balls against Bangladesh, he overtook Kane Williamson and Nathan Astle, who had three centuries each in ICC ODI tournaments.

This was Rachin’s fourth century in ICC ODI events, following three remarkable tons during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. His match-winning innings in Rawalpindi was studded with 12 fours and a six, playing a pivotal role in sealing New Zealand’s semi-final berth.

“A Special Knock That Sealed the Semi-Final Spot”

Having missed New Zealand’s opening match against Pakistan, Rachin returned in style, proving once again why he thrives in Asian conditions.

Chasing Bangladesh’s target of 237, New Zealand found themselves in trouble at 72/3. However, Rachin rose to the occasion, stitching a crucial 129-run partnership with Tom Latham for the fourth wicket.

His stroke-filled innings ensured that Bangladesh was eliminated, while defending champions Pakistan also crashed out of the tournament.

“Rachin’s ability to play spin and pace equally well makes him a vital asset in subcontinent conditions. His innings today not only secured our semi-final spot but also reaffirmed his class,” a New Zealand team official remarked.

“Fortune Favours the Brave”—Rachin’s Game-Changing Innings

With a fearless approach and a vast array of shots, Rachin steadied the innings and accelerated when needed, keeping New Zealand on course. Though Bangladesh struck back late, dismissing both Rachin and Latham in quick succession, Michael Bracewell and Glenn Phillips held their nerve to steer the Kiwis to a comfortable five-wicket victory with two overs to spare.

With this win, New Zealand will now face India in Dubai on March 2, in a battle to determine the top spot in Group A before moving on to the semi-finals.
