Rahul Dravid Reflects on Emotional Journey as India Wins T20 WC

As India celebrated their second T20 World Cup victory, head coach Rahul Dravid shared his thoughts on the journey and his final game with the Men in Blue. India clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final in Barbados.

Reflecting on his tenure, Dravid expressed his gratitude to the team for making the dream of winning the T20 World Cup a reality. Speaking to reporters post-match, he highlighted the collective effort and dedication of the team.

“I was not lucky enough to win a trophy as a player, but I always gave my best. Coaching this team has been a privilege, and I’m grateful to this bunch of boys for making it possible to lift the trophy. It feels incredible, but it’s not about redemption. It was just my job, and I loved every moment of it,” Dravid said.

Dravid also spoke about Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is, praising the skipper’s dedication and character. “I will miss him as a person. What impresses me most is his commitment to the team, the respect he has shown me, and his unwavering energy. His leadership has been invaluable,” he added.

Rohit Sharma retires as the highest run-scorer in T20 internationals, with 4,231 runs in 159 matches. He also holds the record for the most centuries in T20Is (five) and has won two T20 World Cups—one in 2007 as a player and the latest in 2024 as captain.

This victory marks the end of an era for Indian cricket, with both Dravid and Sharma stepping down from their respective roles, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, hard work, and triumph.
