Ravindra Jadeja Credits Domestic Cricket for Consistent Form in England ODI Series
Cuttack (Odisha), February 10: Team India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja attributed his stellar performance in the second ODI against England to his recent stint in domestic cricket, emphasizing that playing for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy helped him maintain his rhythm and consistency.
Jadeja, who played a key role in India’s four-wicket victory over England at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, revealed that despite a break from ODIs since the 2023 World Cup, his form remained intact due to his Ranji Trophy outings.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jadeja acknowledged that bowling long spells in red-ball cricket helped him adapt quickly to the 50-over format.
“I am feeling very good. I have played ODIs for almost two years since the World Cup 2023. One needs to adapt to this format quickly. I think playing domestic cricket has helped me because in that match, I bowled almost 30 overs. Because of that, the rhythm was consistent. So, I think playing domestic cricket has benefited me a lot to maintain the rhythm,” Jadeja said.
In the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Jadeja delivered a match-winning 12-wicket haul against Delhi, leading Saurashtra to a 10-wicket victory. His last domestic appearance came against Assam, where he batted in the first innings but did not bowl.
Opting to bat first, England posted 304 runs, courtesy of Joe Root (69 off 72) and Ben Duckett (65 off 56). Contributions from Liam Livingstone (41 off 32) and Jos Buttler (34 off 35) helped the visitors cross the 300-run mark.
For India, Jadeja led the bowling attack, claiming 3/35 in 10 overs, while the pacers backed him up with key breakthroughs.
In response, Rohit Sharma (119 off 90) and Shubman Gill (60 off 52) provided a 136-run opening stand, setting the foundation for a successful chase. Shreyas Iyer (44 off 47) and Axar Patel (41 off 43)* ensured a comfortable four-wicket victory for India.
England’s bowling struggled, with Jamie Overton emerging as the only standout performer with a two-wicket haul.
With this win, India sealed the ODI series 2-0 and will now head to Ahmedabad for the third and final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, February 14.
