Despite valiant fifties from Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja, Chennai Super Kings fell two runs short as Royal Challengers Bengaluru sealed their eighth win in a high-voltage clash in match number 52 of IPL 2025 at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Bengaluru, May 4:
In a gripping encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) held their nerve to clinch a thrilling 2-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), climbing to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with their eighth win in 11 matches.

Set a formidable target of 214, CSK came agonizingly close, finishing at 211/5, thanks to a near-century from youngster Ayush Mhatre (94 off 48) and a fiery unbeaten 77 from Ravindra Jadeja. However, a composed final over from Yash Dayal—conceding just four runs off the last three balls—denied CSK a memorable win.

Earlier, CSK won the toss and chose to bowl. RCB’s openers Virat Kohli (62 off 33) and Jacob Bethell (55 off 33) tore into the CSK attack, adding 97 runs for the opening wicket. Their blitzkrieg laid the foundation for a late assault from Romario Shepherd, who hammered a jaw-dropping 53* off just 14 balls to push RCB to 213/5.

In response, CSK had a solid start, with Mhatre anchoring the innings. He brought up his maiden IPL fifty and looked poised for a century before Lungi Ngidi (3/30) removed him in the 17th over. Jadeja kept Chennai in the hunt till the final over, but a dramatic final-ball finish saw RCB emerge victorious.

RCB 213/5 (Kohli 62, Bethell 55, Shepherd 53; Pathirana 3/36)*
