After India’s dominant victory over Bangladesh in the second Test in Kanpur, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal reflected on his approach while batting on the fourth day at Green Park.
Jaiswal, who played a pivotal role in the seven-wicket win, scored 51 runs in the second innings, adding to his 72-run effort in the first innings. His consistent performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
Speaking during the post-match presentation, Jaiswal explained his mindset while at the crease:
“I think I was just thinking about what I can do for my team. The situation was different in Chennai, and different here. I was just trying to do what I should do for my team and was trying my best. Every innings is important.”
Jaiswal credited Rohit Sharma for providing the freedom to play his natural game, which helped him approach the chase confidently. “Rohit bhai told me to play the way I want to. We had a chat that we had to at least put some scores, and we can play freely. We wanted to win this game and we were just going for it,” Jaiswal added.
Jaiswal’s impressive innings contributed significantly to India’s chase of a modest target, helping the hosts wrap up the series 2-0 against Bangladesh. His performances continue to highlight his growing importance to India’s batting lineup.
