Rohit Sharma Becomes Second-Highest Run-Getter in IPL History, Surpasses Shikhar Dhawan
Mumbai Indians (MI) veteran and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma etched another milestone into his illustrious IPL career as he became the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history, overtaking Shikhar Dhawan during MI’s clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede on Sunday.
The 36-year-old opener showcased a vintage masterclass, smashing an unbeaten 76 off 45 balls, which powered MI to a thumping nine-wicket win over their arch-rivals. The knock, studded with 4 fours and 6 sixes, came at a strike rate of 168.89 and marked his first half-century of the season.
Rohit’s milestone came in his 264th IPL appearance and 259th innings, adding another feather to his cap alongside five IPL titles with MI.
Though the runs hadn’t come consistently this season, Sunday’s performance could signal the start of a big turnaround for the Mumbai captain in blue.
Chasing 177, Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive unbeaten partnership of 114 runs ensured MI romped home with ease, wrapping up the match in just 15.4 overs.
MI’s emphatic win keeps them in the playoff race, while CSK’s campaign continues to spiral.
