Rohit Sharma Becomes Second Indian to Score 12,000 T20 Runs, Powers MI to Fourth Straight Win

With a blazing 70-run knock against SRH, Rohit joins elite T20 list behind Kohli, becomes eighth overall to cross 12K-mark in the format

Hyderabad, April 24:
Veteran opener Rohit Sharma added another feather to his glittering cap, becoming only the second Indian cricketer and eighth overall to reach 12,000 T20 runs, during Mumbai Indians’ emphatic seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The milestone came in style as Rohit smashed 70 off 46 deliveries, his second successive IPL fifty, at a commanding strike rate of 152.17. His innings, laced with eight boundaries and three sixes, anchored MI’s successful 144-run chase at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in just 15.4 overs.

🔹 Rohit in Elite T20 Company

Rohit now joins an elite group of T20 stalwarts, becoming:

  • The second Indian after Virat Kohli (13,208 runs)
  • The eighth-highest run-scorer globally, with 12,058 runs in 456 matches at an average of 30.91, including 8 centuries and 80 fifties
  • Only the second Indian batter to breach the 12,000-run mark after Kohli

🔹 Record Highlights:

  • Best T20 score: 121*
  • Highest overall: Chris Gayle (14,562), followed by Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, and others
  • Back-to-back IPL fifties for Rohit for the first time since 2016

🔹 MI’s Dominant Chase

Rohit stitched two crucial partnerships:

  • 64 runs with Will Jacks (22)
  • 53 runs with Suryakumar Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 40 off 19 balls

MI finished at 146/3, marking their fourth consecutive victory and moving to third place on the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from nine matches.

🔹 SRH Collapse & Comeback

Put to bat first, SRH were reeling at 35/5 before a gutsy 99-run stand between Heinrich Klaasen (71) and Abhinav Manohar (43) helped them reach 143/8.

  • Trent Boult starred for MI with 4/26
  • Deepak Chahar picked 2/12, while Pandya and Bumrah chipped in with one wicket each

With just two wins in eight matches, SRH now sit at ninth on the table and face an uphill battle to keep their playoff hopes alive. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s resurgence has given MI a major boost as the league heads into its final stretch.
