Rohit Sharma Crosses 6000 Runs for Mumbai Indians, Joins Elite IPL T20 Club

The MI veteran Rohit Sharma slammed a stylish 53 against Rajasthan Royals, becoming the second player ever to score over 6000 T20 runs for a single franchise, solidifying his place among the format’s all-time greats.

Jaipur, May 2: Mumbai Indians’ star batter Rohit Sharma etched his name in IPL T20 history by becoming only the second cricketer to score over 6000 runs for a single franchise, reaching the landmark during MI’s dominant performance against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025.

Playing his 231st match for Mumbai Indians, Rohit added another feather to his cap with a fluent 53 off 36 deliveries, decorated with nine crisp boundaries. His innings laid the foundation for MI’s towering total of 217/2 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

With 6024 runs now under his belt for MI, Rohit joins elite company — trailing only behind Virat Kohli, who has amassed 8871 runs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, making the duo the only players in T20 franchise history to breach the 6000-run mark for a single team.

This milestone came as part of a return to form for the MI stalwart, who struggled early in the season with just 56 runs in his first five games. However, the veteran has turned things around impressively, notching up 234 runs in his last five innings, including two not-out fifties and Thursday’s half-century against RR — his third of the season.

The evening also saw an explosive 116-run opening stand with Ryan Rickelton, who top-scored with 61 off 38 balls, before being dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana. Rohit soon followed, caught off the bowling of RR skipper Riyan Parag.

However, the Royals were offered no breathing room. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya unleashed a brutal assault in the death overs, stitching together an unbeaten 94-run partnership. Both remained not out on 48 off just 23 deliveries, with SKY finishing the innings with a flourish — a six off the final ball.

MI now sits firmly in playoff contention, with Rohit rediscovering his best form at the perfect time, giving the five-time champions a massive boost in the business end of the tournament.

Only Parag and Theekshana managed wickets for the Royals, who now face a daunting chase against a confident MI unit.
