June 22, 2025 : Russia and China have strongly condemned the recent United States airstrikes on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities, calling the actions a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement reported by Al Jazeera, Russia’s Foreign Ministry criticized the US for its “irresponsible decision” to target sovereign Iranian territory with missile and bomb attacks.
“Whatever justification may be offered, such actions flagrantly violate international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and UN Security Council resolutions,” the statement read.
Russia urged an immediate end to aggression and called for renewed efforts toward political and diplomatic solutions.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to visit Moscow on Monday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Politico. Araghchi described the Iran-Russia relationship as a “strategic partnership” and emphasized close coordination between the two nations.
Spain also voiced concerns over escalating tensions. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno told RTVE that only diplomacy—not military action—can bring peace to the Middle East.
“We hope that everyone returns to the negotiating table,” Albares said.
Despite the dramatic escalation, the Kremlin announced that no talks are scheduled between Putin and US President Donald Trump, though a call could be arranged quickly if needed, reported state-run TASS.
China echoed Russia’s condemnation. According to Global Times, the Chinese foreign ministry denounced the US attacks as a serious violation of the UN Charter and safeguards under the IAEA.
“The actions of the US have heightened tensions in the Middle East,” the spokesperson said, urging all parties—particularly Israel—to call a ceasefire and resume dialogue.
China also reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the international community to restore regional peace and stability.
Earlier this week, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone call during which both leaders strongly condemned Israeli strikes on Iran. Xi, without naming the US directly, stressed that “major powers” should de-escalate the conflict, not fuel it—an apparent message aimed at Washington.
The US launched precision strikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities on Sunday, following rising regional tensions. President Trump, speaking from the White House, warned Iran of further retaliation if peace is not achieved.
Iran condemned the strikes, branding them illegal and vowing to continue its nuclear development in defiance.
