The Party of Five star seeks legal protection just weeks after Kelley Wolf’s release from a 5150 psychiatric hold and days after she publicly downplayed the crisis on social media.
Washington, Utah [June 26]: Actor Scott Wolf has filed a restraining order against his estranged wife Kelley Wolf as part of their ongoing and increasingly turbulent divorce proceedings. PEOPLE has confirmed that the Party of Five alum, 57, submitted the request in Utah on Tuesday, June 24, supported by a separate declaration from his brother, Michael Wolf. The action follows Kelley’s recent involuntary 5150 psychiatric hold and her subsequent public comments minimizing the incident.
Wolf’s filing comes less than two weeks after Kelley, 48, was taken into custody by authorities on June 13 and placed under an involuntary 72-hour psychiatric evaluation, commonly referred to as a 5150 hold. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, this legal action is reserved for individuals deemed a danger to themselves or others due to a mental health disorder.
Kelley was released and served with the restraining order on Wednesday, June 25. A court hearing regarding the matter is scheduled for July 1. Divorce filings in Utah remain sealed, but the timing of the order—coinciding with Kelley’s discharge and public reappearance—has drawn public scrutiny.
On June 23, Kelley took to Instagram, stating:
“I’m fine, y’all. I’m happy… No mental illness. No addictions… Just a woman who SURVIVED an involuntary 5150 and went on a 1st DATE 2-night. So nervous! OMG!”
In the post, she added that her humor remains “intact,” and declared, “I’m ALIVE. I’m not quiet anymore. And the show’s just getting started.”
However, emergency dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE revealed that a friend of Kelley’s had placed a 911 call urging authorities to intervene, citing her “escalating mental health crisis.” The unnamed caller described Kelley as “very skittish” and “very anti getting help,” adding, “I do not think she will cooperate… We’ve been trying to get her to get some help for weeks to months.”
The personal turmoil comes on the heels of Kelley announcing the end of her 21-year marriage to Scott on Instagram on June 10.
“This has been a long, quiet journey for me—rooted in hope, patience, and care for our children,” she wrote. “While I will not speak publicly about the details, I feel peace knowing that I’ve done everything I can to walk this path with integrity and compassion.”
As the July 1 hearing approaches, the couple—once considered one of Hollywood’s enduring marriages—now finds themselves at the center of a deeply personal legal and emotional battle.
