For the second time in three days, the San Francisco residence of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has become a crime scene. San Francisco Police arrested a man and a woman early Sunday morning, April 12, 2026, following reports of shots fired in the exclusive Russian Hill neighborhood.

The suspects have been identified as Amanda Tom (25) of San Francisco and Muhamad Tarik Hussein (23). Both were booked into San Francisco County Jail on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm.

The Timeline: A Suspicious Drive-By

According to the SFPD, the incident unfolded in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday:

  • 2:56 AM: Officers responded to calls regarding “suspicious occurrences” and possible gunshots near Altman’s property.
  • The Vehicle: Investigators from the Special Investigation Division (SID) identified a vehicle seen driving past the residence at the time of the shooting.
  • The Arrest: Tracking the vehicle led police to the 2000 block of Taylor Street, where Tom and Hussein were detained without incident.
  • The Seizure: A subsequent search warrant of a residence uncovered three firearms, which were seized as evidence.

Pattern of Attacks: Two Incidents in 72 Hours

The shooting follows a violent attack on the same property just two days prior. On Friday, April 10, 20-year-old Alejandro Daniel Moreno-Gama was arrested after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at the home at 3:45 AM.

While police have not yet confirmed a direct link between Moreno-Gama and the duo arrested Sunday, the frequency of these incidents has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of high-profile tech executives in San Francisco.

Official Response: “Extremely Serious”

SFPD Chief Derrick Lew issued a stern warning following the arrests, emphasizing the department’s zero-tolerance policy for gun-related crimes in residential areas.

“The SFPD takes crimes involving guns extremely seriously… I want to thank our officers whose swift actions identified these suspects, took them into custody, and got dangerous weapons off our streets.”

Current Status:

Altman’s Safety: Altman, who recently broke his privacy streak by sharing a photo of his family to “humanize” the stakes of his work, has not yet commented on this second incident.

Investigation: The case remains “open and active.” Police are looking for any connection to the previous Molotov cocktail attack or potential motives related to the tech industry.
