Shocking Champions Trophy Snub! Jasprit Bumrah Declared 'Medically Fit' But Dropped – Here's Why!
February 12, 2025: Jasprit Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025, the BCCI confirmed on Tuesday night. The star pacer failed to recover in time from a lower back injury sustained during the final India vs Australia Test in Sydney.
According to a report by PTI, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru had left the final decision to the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, despite declaring Bumrah medically fit. However, doubts remained over whether he was match-fit for a high-stakes tournament like the Champions Trophy.
A report outlined that the NCA follows two key fitness parameters before clearing a player for competitive action:

While Bumrah cleared the first hurdle, there were still concerns about his ability to handle a full workload in an intense tournament.
The BCCI selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, discussed the matter with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir before making the tough call to drop Bumrah from the squad.
In his absence, Harshit Rana has been named as his replacement. Additionally, the selectors made another significant change—dropping Yashasvi Jaiswal and including Varun Chakaravarthy in the final 15-man squad.
With Bumrah ruled out, the BCCI will closely monitor his recovery timeline, as he remains a crucial part of India’s T20 World Cup and Test Championship campaigns later this year.
