Balochistan: Two Civilians Killed, One Critically Injured—Strike Declared in Awaran

May 28, 2025: In a shocking incident in the Awaran district of Balochistan, Pakistani military forces have been accused of killing two civilians, including a woman, and critically injuring another during a late-night raid.

According to The Balochistan Post (TBP), the 1:00 AM operation on Tuesday in the Malaar Machhi region allegedly targeted a young man for forced disappearance. When the family resisted the arrest, army personnel opened fire, killing Naeem Baloch, son of Sanjar Baloch, and an elderly woman, Hoori Baloch. Dadi Baloch, Naeem’s mother, was severely injured.

The Baloch Women Forum (BWF) strongly condemned the raid, calling it extrajudicial and illegal, and announced a district-wide strike in Awaran on May 28. Their statement claims this is part of a shocking pattern of state-led violence, noting this was the fifth killing in Awaran in one week.

Protesters marched with the victims’ bodies to Awaran city, demanding justice and international attention to what they described as genocide against the Baloch population. The BWF accused Pakistani forces of having unchecked power, saying they are “employing force without restraint.”

Local activists and community members have echoed the demand for an independent investigation. Human rights groups say this is part of a disturbing trend of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, commonly attributed to Pakistani security forces, including the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

As of now, the Pakistani military has issued no official statement on the incident.

The BWF is urging nationwide and global advocacy, calling on civil society to stand with the victims and speak out against the violence.
