Mumbai Crime Branch forms 12 teams to probe late-night firing in Juhu
February 1, 2026: Security has been tightened outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai after unidentified assailants fired at least four rounds outside his home around 12:43 am. According to ANI, no injuries were reported and it remains unclear whether Shetty was present at the time of the incident. An FIR has been registered, and police have launched an investigation into the late-night firing.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has formed 12 special teams to track down the suspects. Police and forensic units reached the spot soon after the incident to secure the area and collect evidence. CCTV visuals reportedly show bullet marks on a glass panel of the building’s balcony, while the attackers fled immediately after opening fire. Authorities are scanning footage from over 100 CCTV cameras installed in and around the building and nearby localities to trace the escape route.
As per IANS, Rohit Shetty’s residential tower has two entry gates and is equipped with more than ten CCTV cameras. The incident has caused concern as Juhu is regarded as one of Mumbai’s most secure and upscale neighbourhoods, home to several film industry celebrities. The firing has drawn comparisons with the 2024 shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s Bandra residence. Rohit Shetty is among Bollywood’s most successful directors, known for hit franchises like Golmaal and Singham, and films such as Chennai Express.
