February 12, 2025: Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has risen to second place in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Rankings, just five rating points behind top-ranked batter Babar Azam of Pakistan. Gill’s impressive back-to-back half-centuries in the ongoing ODI series against England have helped him make this significant jump.
Babar Azam continues to hold the number one spot but is under threat as India captain Rohit Sharma, who scored a brilliant century in Cuttack, is only 13 rating points behind the Pakistan star. The rankings have intensified with the upcoming Champions Trophy set to start in just a week, which promises a tight race for the top position in ODI cricket.
The latest rankings also see other notable players like Fakhar Zaman, Kane Williamson, and Jos Buttler making moves within the top ranks, while the bowling and all-rounder categories are similarly competitive. Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi remains the leader in the ODI all-rounder rankings, while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja represent India in the top bowling positions.
With just one week remaining until the Champions Trophy, the competition for the number-one spot in 50-over cricket has never been more exciting.
