Sunil Narine becomes first player to win MVP award in IPL thrice
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Sunil Narine has made history by becoming the first player to win the ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP) award three times in the Indian Premier League (IPL), following KKR’s victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final.
Narine’s first MVP award came in 2012, his debut season, where he picked up 24 wickets. He secured his second MVP title in 2018, scoring 357 runs and taking 17 wickets. In the 17th season of the IPL, Narine delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 488 runs and taking 17 wickets for the Kolkata-based franchise.
In the IPL 2024 final, Narine took one wicket and gave away just 16 runs in his four-over spell, dismissing Jaydev Unadkat in the 18th over. During KKR’s run chase, he contributed six runs off two balls at a strike rate of 300.
KKR clinched their third title under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, defeating SRH by 8 wickets on Sunday.
