Suryakumar Yadav Praises Tilak Varma’s Match-Winning Effort in Tense T20I Victory

Indian captain lauds Tilak’s composure under pressure and Ravi Bishnoi’s valuable contribution in India’s thrilling two-wicket win over England.

Chennai, January 26: India captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed his delight at Tilak Varma’s maturity and responsibility in guiding India to a thrilling two-wicket victory against England in the second T20I. Tilak’s composed knock of 72 not out under pressure played a pivotal role in the hosts clinching the match with four balls to spare.

The contest took a tense turn when India needed 20 runs off the final three overs. Tilak rotated the strike judiciously, giving Ravi Bishnoi an opportunity to contribute at crucial moments. Bishnoi, inspired by Tilak’s confidence, struck two timely boundaries, including one off Liam Livingstone in the penultimate over, which reduced the equation to six runs from six balls.

Tilak finished the game in style with a flashy cover drive, securing the victory and earning high praise from his skipper.

Captain’s Confidence in Tilak and Bishnoi

“Very happy with the way Tilak batted. It’s good to see someone like him taking responsibility. Ravi Bishnoi has been putting in hard work in the nets and wants to contribute with the bat,” Suryakumar said during the post-match presentation.

Bowling Brilliance Sets the Tone

On a surface where 180 runs were par, India’s bowlers delivered an all-round performance, restricting England to 165/9. This disciplined effort set the stage for India’s successful chase, despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

“A little bit of relief. The way the game was going, we felt 160 was good, but the way they bowled was brilliant. We’ve been playing with an extra batter for the last few series, and that depth helped us today,” Suryakumar noted.

Aggressive Cricket With a Plan

Suryakumar emphasized India’s intent to play aggressive cricket while maintaining a clear game plan. The small but vital partnerships throughout the chase highlighted the team’s adaptability and resilience under pressure.

“The chat was to play like the last game. Good to see we are playing an aggressive brand of cricket. The guys stitched small partnerships and took the pressure off. There will be days it won’t come off, but we know what we want to do. If we stay on the same page, good things will happen,” the Indian skipper concluded.

India’s victory not only secured a 2-0 lead in the five-match series but also showcased the team’s collective spirit and adaptability, setting the tone for the upcoming matches.
