SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025 Showcases Asia’s Innovation Renaissance, Merges Tradition with Futuristic Vision

May 14, 2025; SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025 drew global attention as it brought together over 500 companies and 50,000 participants, including startups, tech innovators, and industry leaders from around the world. The event, designed to spotlight Asia’s growing innovation ecosystem, highlighted the intersection of cutting-edge technology and cultural heritage.

The event was formally inaugurated by Tokyo Metropolitan Governor Yuriko Koike, who delivered an inspiring keynote. She reflected on Tokyo’s deep-rooted sustainability values inherited from the Edo period, stating:”The concept of a circular economy was deeply rooted in the Edo period — the former name of Tokyo — and its legacy of sustainability continues to inspire the city today. Tokyo has inherited the DNA of this sustainable Edo, carrying forward its spirit as it builds the future.”Governor Koike invited attendees to not only explore the latest in technology but also indulge in authentic sushi and the energy of the event’s three vibrant days. She also encouraged young students to embrace entrepreneurship, underscoring Tokyo’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators. In a highlight moment, five student entrepreneurs presented their developing business ideas to an international audience.

Each exhibition pavilion at SusHi Tech Tokyo offered a unique fusion of modern innovation, traditional Japanese aesthetics, and forward-thinking design, demonstrating how Tokyo blends its cultural legacy with futuristic aspirations.

India played a prominent role, with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Startup India initiative, actively participating. An Indian AI startup presented their solution designed for use across customer support, sales, and marketing, adaptable to industries like retail, telecom, healthcare, and travel.

Kazuya Katayama, Deputy Director General of Japan’s Startup Strategy Promotion Headquarters, emphasized the event’s global outreach, particularly in Asia and India:”Globalization is the defining feature of this event. SusHi Tech Tokyo serves as a gateway for ecosystem players — particularly from Asia and India — to move forward toward fundraising, IPOs, and collaborations with major Japanese companies.”He added that these connections would pave the way for long-term innovation and ecosystem growth across the region.

As Tokyo reimagines itself as a high-tech, sustainable metropolis, its commitment to honoring its cultural past while propelling technological advancement sets the stage for it to become a global hub of circular economy and innovation.
