
Tamil Nadu: Elephant found dead in Boluvampatti Forest Reserve
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India]: A female elephant was found dead in the Perumpallam Stream in the Ichukuzhi Saraga area of Boluvampatti Forest Reserve in Coimbatore on Friday.
The forest official said “The elephant, estimated to be 40-45 years old, had been dead for about two days. An autopsy conducted by a team of forest officials and veterinarians revealed that the cause of death was hepatitis liver disorder.”
“On September 30, a female elephant was found dead in the bush while the forest staff was patrolling at near Perumpallam Stream in Ichukuzhi Saraga area of Coimbatore jurisdiction Boluvampatti Forest Reserve, Narasipuram Division, Boluvampatti Block III Reserve Forest, Devarayapuram Circle,” said the Official
“Coimbatore jurisdiction Assistant Forest Conservator Senthilkumar, Poluvambatti Forest Officer Suchindranath and forest workers, CWCT Charity Administrator Shanmugam, Osai Non-profit Organization Administrator Senthil, Thondamuthur Inner Circle Revenue Inspector Priya, Devarayapuram Village Administrative Officer Palani, Coimbatore Forest Department Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve Forest Veterinarian Sathasivam, Narasipuram Assistant Veterinarian Karthikeyan and Thondamuthur Veterinarian Shanthi conducted an autopsy on the dead elephant,” added the forest official.
The elephant’s carcass was found in the Ichukuzhi Saraga area of the forest reserve, near Perumpallam Stream.
The forest department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the elephant’s death.
