“It Felt Like the End of the World” – Survivors Recount the Horror in Balochistan
Quetta, March 12: Passengers of the Jaffar Express have shared chilling accounts of the terror attack near Machh, Balochistan, as armed assailants detonated a bomb and opened fire, leaving hundreds of passengers fearing for their lives. Survivors recalled the chaotic moments of panic, gunfire, and hostage situations as the attack unfolded.
“After the explosion, we had no idea what was happening. Armed men started checking our identity cards,” recounted a survivor, highlighting the fear that gripped the train.
Another passenger, Noor Muhammad, described the harrowing ordeal: “After the blast, there was intense gunfire, and we had to run for our lives.”
A female survivor recounted the terrifying aftermath: “We were sitting in the train when suddenly a blast occurred, and we were ordered to step out. We had to walk for two hours after the attack.”
Meanwhile, Muhammad Ashraf painted a grim picture of the attack: “It felt like the end of the world. Panic was everywhere. The attackers spared women and the elderly. There were over 100 armed assailants.” He further acknowledged the Pakistan Army personnel at Paneer Station who provided assistance and reassured passengers.
Rescue Operations Underway
Pakistan security forces launched a rescue operation, successfully freeing 155 hostages while eliminating 27 of the attackers, according to official reports. Several injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals as security operations continued in the region.
The Jaffar Express was attacked while traveling through Balochistan’s Bolan Pass, with terrorists planting a bomb on the tracks to halt the train. Following the blast, militants took approximately 400 passengers, including women and children, hostage in a bid to create chaos.
A Recurring Threat
This is not the first time trains have been targeted in Balochistan. In November last year, a deadly explosion at Quetta railway station resulted in 26 deaths and over 40 injuries, including women and children. The Jaffar Express and other railway services remain vulnerable to terrorist attacks, posing an ongoing security challenge for authorities.
