Texas Floods Sweep Away Summer Camp: At Least 13 Killed

July 5, 2025: Texas Floods -Central Texas Hill Country faced devastating flash floods on Friday after more than 10 inches of rain fell within hours, leading to the deaths of 24 people and leaving many more missing, including over 20 girls from a summer camp.

The floods, caused by a rapid rise in the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, swept through the area late Thursday night. Search and rescue teams used boats and helicopters to save more than 230 people, but an ongoing rescue operation continues for those still unaccounted for.

Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along the Guadalupe River in Hunt, was among the worst hit. At least 23 girls attending the camp remain missing. Survivors described terrifying scenes as floodwaters rose swiftly, destroying the camp and forcing emergency evacuations by helicopter.

Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha confirmed the death toll but warned it could change as authorities work to identify the victims. Local residents shared desperate pleas on social media, searching for missing loved ones.

Meteorologists reported a record 22-foot rise in river levels within two hours, causing widespread destruction. Residents like Erin Burgess described clinging to trees as floodwaters surged into their homes. Rescue teams, using helicopters, boats, and drones, continue their efforts through difficult conditions.
