Thailand to Launch e-Visa System for Indian Applicants from January 2025
New Delhi, December 11: The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi has announced the official rollout of Thailand’s Electronic Visa (e-Visa) system for Indian applicants, effective January 1, 2025. This initiative aims to simplify the visa application process while providing added convenience through features like an offline payment option.
The e-Visa platform will cater to non-Thai nationals applying for all visa categories. Applicants are required to submit their visa applications exclusively through the official website, thaievisa.go.th.
The Embassy has outlined a phased transition to the e-Visa platform:
The existing 60-day visa exemption for Indian travellers with ordinary passports, applicable for tourism and short business trips, will remain effective until further notice.
The rollout of the e-Visa system is set to enhance convenience for Indian travellers, further strengthening the robust ties between India and Thailand. Both nations share a maritime boundary in the Andaman Sea and a rich history of cultural and social exchanges.
India’s Buddhist heritage attracts Thai pilgrims to its Buddhist sites, while Hindu influences are evident in Thai art, architecture, and literature. The Thai language’s incorporation of Pali and Sanskrit underscores this deep-rooted cultural connection. Additionally, the Indian diaspora in Thailand acts as a critical bridge fostering bilateral relationships.
Further details about the implementation of the e-Visa system across Thai diplomatic missions in India will be announced soon. This step is expected to bolster tourism and business exchanges, underscoring the enduring partnership between the two nations.
