Three terrorists were killed in an intense encounter with Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday. The gunfight, which reportedly began in Kulgam and shifted to a forest area in Shopian, has been ongoing for more than two hours, with a possible fourth terrorist still believed to be hiding in the region.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs, with personnel from the Indian Army and paramilitary forces intercepting the group.

The timing of this encounter is highly significant, coming just days after India launched Operation Sindoor—a retaliatory strike on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives.
India has since elevated its counterterrorism posture, issuing a stern warning that any future terror attack will be treated as an act of war and met with decisive retaliation.

In a televised address to the nation on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India’s revamped anti-terror doctrine:
“If there is a terrorist attack on India, a befitting response will be given — on our terms. We will strike precisely and decisively at the roots of terrorism, wherever they exist,” he said.
He also emphasized:
- Zero tolerance for nuclear blackmail.
- No distinction between terrorist masterminds and state sponsors.
- Global exposure of Pakistan’s duplicity, citing top Pakistani officers attending funerals of slain terrorists as proof of state-sponsored terrorism.

⚔️ Operation Sindoor Recap
On May 7, India conducted precision airstrikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan and PoK, eliminating over 100 terrorists and neutralizing camps belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Pakistan retaliated with drone and missile attacks on civilian areas in Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan, prompting India to launch secondary strikes targeting Pakistani airbases and radar installations, inflicting significant damage.
🔍 Ceasefire in Place, But Vigil Continues
A ceasefire agreement was announced on May 10, but Indian armed forces have made it clear that vigil remains high, and any further misadventure from across the border will provoke swift, proportionate action.
