Tibet Earthquake: 53 Dead, Over 60 Injured as Series of Powerful Tremors Shake Region-Watch Live Visuals

January 7, 2025: In a devastating turn of events, six powerful earthquakes, with the strongest measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, struck Tibet within an hour on Tuesday morning, leaving at least 53 people dead and over 60 injured, according to China’s Xinhua news agency.

  • Epicenter Damage: Dingri County, near the quake’s epicenter, reported widespread destruction, with several buildings collapsing and infrastructure severely damaged.

  • In Nepal’s Kathmandu, residents rushed out of their homes in panic. A local resident, Meera Adhikari, recounted, “I was sleeping when I felt the bed shaking. I hurriedly grabbed my child and ran to an open ground.”
  • Bhutan also experienced noticeable tremors, adding to regional panic.
