Trudeau’s Exit: Abhishek Singhvi Criticizes ‘Foolish Policies,’ Hopes for Better Indo-Canada Ties
New Delhi, January 7: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Singhvi has strongly criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s leadership, labeling his policies as ‘foolish’ and his approach towards radical elements as soft and damaging to bilateral relations.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Singhvi expressed hope that Trudeau’s resignation would pave the way for stronger Indo-Canada ties and mark a shift towards better diplomacy.
“Justin Trudeau’s resignation is a much-needed change for Canada and its global relations. His tenure was marked by foolish policies on the domestic front and a soft stance on radical elements. We hope his exit paves the way for stronger, more respectful Indo-Canada relations,” Singhvi wrote.
Trudeau announced his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister, stating he will step down once a new leader is selected. He also confirmed that Parliament will remain prorogued until March 24 to allow for a leadership transition.
“I intend to resign as party leader and Prime Minister after the party chooses its next leader. If I have to fight internal battles, I can’t be a good candidate,” Trudeau said.
The announcement comes after months of parliamentary paralysis and growing dissent within the Liberal Party. Trudeau acknowledged the challenges of internal party conflicts and expressed gratitude to his family for their unwavering support.
“Despite my best efforts, Parliament has been paralyzed. Over the holidays, I reflected deeply and spoke with my family. Last night, I informed my children of my decision,” Trudeau added.
Relations between India and Canada have faced significant strain during Trudeau’s leadership, particularly on issues concerning radical elements and diplomatic misunderstandings. Singhvi’s remarks echo the broader sentiment in India, where Trudeau’s leadership has been perceived as a barrier to smoother bilateral ties.
With Trudeau stepping aside, the Liberal Party is set to begin the process of selecting a new leader, with names like Chrystia Freeland, Anita Anand, and Mark Carney emerging as potential successors.
Political analysts suggest that Trudeau’s exit could mark a turning point for Canada, potentially easing tensions with key international allies, including India.
Trudeau, who has been in office since 2015, leaves behind a mixed legacy marked by domestic controversies, strained diplomatic ties, and economic challenges. The incoming Liberal leader will face the daunting task of rebuilding party unity, addressing internal dissent, and re-establishing stable international relationships.
As Canada prepares for a leadership transition, the spotlight will remain on how the Liberal Party handles the succession process and whether Trudeau’s departure will usher in a new era of stability and cooperation with global partners like India.
Singhvi’s sharp criticism underscores the high stakes for Canada-India relations in the aftermath of Trudeau’s resignation. The world will now watch closely as Canada navigates its political future under new leadership.
