Trump Condemns Release of Illegal Immigrant After Off-Duty CBP Officer Shot in NYC

US President Donald Trump criticized the Biden administration for releasing Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, the suspect in the shooting of an off-duty CBP officer, despite a deportation order.

US President Donald Trump expressed outrage on Sunday over the shooting of an off-duty US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer in New York City, allegedly by an illegal immigrant who had been previously apprehended but released by the Biden administration. In a heated post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that the suspect, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, was apprehended in April 2023 but was not deported, leading to the officer’s shooting. Trump condemned the release of Nunez, calling him an “Illegal Alien Monster” and accusing the Biden administration of allowing criminals to enter the country.

Details of the Incident:
The officer, a 42-year-old federal agent, and his female companion were sitting on a rock in Fort Washington Park near the Hudson River when they were ambushed by two men riding a moped around 11:50 pm, according to police sources. After a brief altercation, one of the assailants shot the officer in the face and left forearm before fleeing the scene. The officer, despite his injuries, was able to defend himself and shot the suspect, reportedly wounding him.

Suspect’s Background and Trump’s Response:
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a Dominican national with a lengthy criminal history in New York, was previously apprehended at the US-Mexico border in April 2023 but was released instead of being deported, Trump claimed. Nunez had a deportation order in place but was let go each time he was arrested. Trump’s fiery statement on Truth Social accused the Democrats of allowing “criminal invaders” into the country, calling for their immediate prosecution or removal.

Mayor Adams Addresses the Incident:
New York City Mayor Eric Adams visited the injured officer at Harlem Hospital and addressed the growing criticism of the incident. “Our goal is to get dangerous people off the streets,” Adams said. “Whatever we need to do in our federal laws to ensure that dangerous people are not on our streets, federal authorities need to do that.” Mayor Adams stressed the importance of working with federal partners to tackle violent crime and gang activity.

Ongoing Investigation and Reactions:
The investigation into the shooting continues, with authorities confirming that the suspect entered the United States illegally under the Biden administration, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security. This incident has ignited renewed debate on border security and the handling of illegal immigrants in the US.

The shooting of the CBP officer has raised serious concerns about illegal immigration and public safety, with both Trump and Mayor Adams calling for stronger action to address the issue. As the investigation unfolds, calls for justice and changes in federal immigration policy are expected to intensify.
