Washington DC [US], June 26: In an explosive declaration on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump called for the “immediate cancellation” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial, denouncing it as a “ridiculous witch hunt” by the Israeli judiciary. Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump framed the proceedings as politically motivated, coming at a time when Netanyahu had just “saved Israel” through decisive military action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. “It will be the United States that saves Bibi Netanyahu,” Trump asserted.

In his post, Trump expressed disbelief that the Israeli state would pursue legal action against Netanyahu despite what he described as “one of the greatest moments in Israeli history,” referring to the recent coordinated strikes that crippled Iran’s nuclear and drone capabilities. “Bibi and I just went through HELL together,” Trump wrote, praising Netanyahu’s wartime leadership and calling him a “warrior like perhaps no other in the history of Israel.”

Trump claimed that under Netanyahu’s leadership, Israel achieved the “complete elimination” of Iran’s near-term nuclear threat, a feat that “nobody thought was possible.” In this context, the US President said the charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust — which involve accusations over gifts such as cigars and even a “Bugs Bunny doll” — were not only trivial but designed to inflict political damage.

“This horror show has been going on since May of 2020,” Trump stated, referencing the unprecedented nature of Netanyahu’s trial — the first time a sitting Israeli Prime Minister has stood trial in court. “He deserves much better than this, and so does the State of Israel,” Trump said, concluding with a demand that the trial be cancelled or Netanyahu be granted a full pardon.
