Trump Justice Department Fires Prosecutors Who Investigated Him

Over a dozen Justice Department employees dismissed amid claims of a loyalty-driven purge, challenging long-standing norms.

January 30, 2025: Washington, D.C.: The Trump Justice Department announced on Monday that it has terminated more than a dozen employees who were involved in criminal investigations related to President Donald Trump. This action, carried out under acting Attorney General James McHenry, has raised concerns over the administration’s commitment to preserving nonpartisan prosecutorial independence.

The decision targeted career prosecutors, many of whom were reportedly connected to special counsel Jack Smith’s investigative team. Smith himself resigned earlier this month, further highlighting the tumult within the department.
