Trump Renews Calls for US Control Over Panama Canal, Canada, and Greenland in Bold Christmas Message

Citing national security and economic benefits, Trump emphasizes US control over key territories in a series of Christmas social media posts.

Washington DC [US], December 26: In a series of Christmas posts on Truth Social, US President-elect Donald Trump reignited his calls for US acquisition of the Panama Canal, Canada, and Greenland, citing national security and economic advantages.

Trump began his post with a Christmas greeting while sharply criticizing foreign control and leadership in these regions.

“Merry Christmas to all, including to the wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal (where we lost 38,000 people in its building 110 years ago). Always making certain that the United States puts in billions of dollars in ‘repair’ money, but will have absolutely nothing to say about ‘anything.'”

Canada as the 51st State?

Turning his attention to Canada, Trump reiterated his controversial suggestion that the country should consider becoming the 51st state of the United States:
“If Canada was to become our 51st State, their Taxes would be cut by more than 60%, their businesses would immediately double in size, and they would be militarily protected like no other country anywhere in the world.”

Greenland for National Security

On Greenland, Trump emphasized its strategic importance for US national security, claiming that the Greenlandic people support US presence on their land:
“Likewise, to the people of Greenland, which is needed by the United States for National Security purposes and, who want the U.S. to be there, and we will!”

Sharp Criticism of Political Opponents

Trump also took a swipe at his political rivals, calling them “Radical Left Lunatics” and criticized President Joe Biden’s recent pardons.
“I refuse to wish a Merry Christmas to those lucky ‘souls’ but, instead, will say, GO TO HELL!”

Eric Trump Adds Fuel to Speculation

Adding to the controversy, Eric Trump posted a meme showing Trump symbolically purchasing Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal, captioning it, “We are so back!!!”

Historical Context of Trump’s Claims

Trump’s interest in Greenland dates back to his 2019 presidency, when he proposed buying the territory from Denmark, citing strategic advantages. Similarly, his assertion about the Panama Canal aligns with his long-standing stance on economic and military control over key assets.

Global Reactions Awaited

While Trump’s statements have sparked mixed reactions domestically, they are likely to draw sharp criticism from global leaders, particularly in Denmark, Canada, and Panama.

As the 2025 presidential inauguration approaches, Trump’s bold statements signal a potential shift in US foreign policy priorities under his leadership.
