
Trump Responds to Zelensky's Complaints on US-Russia Talks: "Disappointed" But Confident of Peace Deal
February 19, 2025: Washington: US President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment over Ukraine’s frustration at being excluded from recent US-Russia negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing war. Trump, however, remained optimistic about a peace deal, suggesting that a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin could happen soon.

During discussions in Riyadh, the United States and Russia reportedly agreed to set up negotiation teams to explore a resolution to the war, which began in February 2022 with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Trump stated that the talks were productive, asserting that “Russia wants to stop the savage barbarianism.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky strongly criticized Kyiv’s exclusion from the negotiations, calling it a betrayal. However, Trump dismissed the concerns, saying, “I’m very disappointed… You’ve been there for three years. You should have never started it. You could have made a deal.”
The shift in US foreign policy under Trump’s potential leadership has raised alarms across Europe, as many fear that Washington may offer major concessions to Moscow, thereby altering Europe’s security landscape.
When asked whether he would meet Putin by the end of the month, Trump responded, “Probably.”
As diplomatic discussions continue, the potential implications of these negotiations remain uncertain, especially for Ukraine, which finds itself sidelined in talks that could determine the future of the conflict.
