Former US President Donald Trump has ruled out deporting Prince Harry, despite ongoing legal scrutiny over the Duke of Sussex’s visa status. In an interview with The New York Post on Friday, Trump made it clear that he has no intention of taking action against Harry, while also criticizing Meghan Markle.
“I don’t want to do that,” Trump said, referring to deportation. “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible,” he added.
Prince Harry’s Immigration Controversy
The debate over Prince Harry’s US visa stems from a legal challenge filed by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, which has questioned whether Harry failed to disclose his past drug use on his visa application. The foundation has cited revelations from Harry’s autobiography, Spare, where he openly admitted to using cocaine, cannabis, and psychedelics in the past.
According to Nile Gardiner, a representative from the Heritage Foundation, “Anyone who applies to the United States has to be truthful on their application, and it is not clear that is the case with Prince Harry.”
Trump Praises Prince William, Criticizes Meghan
During the interview, Trump took the opportunity to praise Prince William, describing him as “a great young man.” The two met privately in Paris during the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in December 2024. This meeting stood in sharp contrast to Trump’s strained relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan, both of whom have publicly criticized him.
Markle has previously referred to Trump as “divisive” and “misogynistic.” In return, Trump has mocked Harry, stating in past interviews that the prince is “whipped” by Meghan. “I think poor Harry is being led around by the nose,” Trump had remarked earlier.
Claims of Special Treatment Under Biden Administration
The Heritage Foundation has also alleged that Prince Harry may have received special treatment from the Biden administration, given that he and Meghan relocated to California in 2020 following their departure from the British royal family—a move widely known as “Megxit.”
Despite the ongoing controversy, Trump’s latest remarks indicate he has no plans to take action against Harry, though his criticism of Meghan Markle has once again sparked headlines.
