Trump Steps In: Can He Stop Iran-Israel War?

June 17, 2025: Iran-Israel War Live Updates: The deadly conflict between Iran and Israel is intensifying, with both nations exchanging missile and drone attacks for the fifth consecutive day. Israel’s military reported fresh missile launches from Iran on Tuesday, warning that “the largest attacks” from both sides may still lie ahead.

The death toll continues to rise, with at least 224 people killed and over 1,200 injured in Iran. In Israel, 24 deaths and 592 injuries have been confirmed due to retaliatory Iranian strikes.

Tensions escalated further after Israel bombed the Tehran office of Iranian state broadcaster IRIB — an airstrike that was caught live on camera. The move followed remarks by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who vowed to dismantle “Iranian propaganda” and warned Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that Israel would “strike everywhere.”

Israel claims its current offensive—targeting nuclear scientists, enrichment facilities, and military leadership—aims to halt Iran’s march toward developing a nuclear weapon. Notably, however, Iran’s Fordo uranium enrichment site remains intact despite multiple strikes.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the strikes have set Iran’s nuclear program back by a “very, very long time” and said he remains in constant communication with former US President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump voiced his support for Israel during the G7 summit, which he left early, citing “obvious reasons.” He warned US citizens in Tehran to evacuate and stated he is “looking for better than a ceasefire” — instead aiming for a “real end” to the war. Trump also hinted at sending Vice President JD Vance and special envoy Steve Witkoff to initiate negotiations with Iran.

In a new front of the war, Iranian air defenses repelled an Israeli strike on a joint Iran-Qatar gas field, while a cyberattack disrupted Iran’s Bank Sepah, though officials expect services to resume soon.

Amidst the chaos, China criticized Trump, accusing him of “pouring oil on the fire,” as global powers watch the situation in the Middle East spiral toward greater instability.
