Trump’s Foreign Policy Shift: Is the U.S. Handing Global Power to Russia and China?

“Trump is being played for a fool by Putin” – Analysts Warn of Global Consequences

Hong Kong, March 4: The geopolitical landscape is undergoing a seismic shift as U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial stance on Ukraine continues to spark outrage among allies. Following a public clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, analysts warn that Trump’s apparent alignment with Russia is creating a power vacuum that benefits Moscow and Beijing.

While European nations rally behind Ukraine, the U.S. appears to be retreating from its traditional leadership role, leaving key allies questioning America’s reliability on the global stage.

“The U.S. is Capitulating to Putin” – A Shift in Global Power

As Trump and Vice President JD Vance berated Zelenskyy on live television, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu was in Beijing, meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping. The timing was symbolic, as China and Russia reaffirmed their “ironclad friendship”, vowing to deepen military and economic ties.

Russian state media celebrated the shift, declaring:
“Now everything is being decided inside a big triangle: Russia, China, and the U.S. The EU as a united political force no longer exists.”

This realignment of global power is precisely what Moscow and Beijing have long sought—a weakened Western alliance and an America focused inward rather than outward.

Analysts Warn: “The Seeds of a New World War Are Being Sown”

Malcolm Davis, Senior Analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), condemned Trump’s approach, calling it “shameful” and “a moment of total capitulation.”

“Trump is being played for a fool by Putin. He’s rapidly destroying any credibility the U.S. had left in Europe,” Davis warned.
“He’s sending a terrible message of weakness to China. The seeds of a new world war are being sown as we watch.”

According to Davis, the U.S. is abandoning its allies, pushing Europe to reconsider its reliance on Washington.

“If Trump turns his back on NATO and the EU, Europe will have no choice but to stand alone. The only winners here are Putin and Xi.”

Trump’s Ukraine Policy: A Gift to Moscow

Trump’s stance on Ukraine has alarmed analysts, with critics accusing him of:

🔴 Blaming Ukraine for the war while excusing Russia’s aggression.
🔴 Ignoring Ukrainian sovereignty by suggesting that Kyiv must cede 20% of its territory to Russia.
🔴 Opposing U.N. resolutions condemning Russia, a move that even China avoided by abstaining.
🔴 Questioning Zelenskyy’s legitimacy while maintaining a “very close” relationship with Putin.

The fallout from Trump’s rhetoric is already visible. At a recent U.N. General Assembly vote, the U.S. aligned with Russia and North Korea—a move described as “unthinkable” by diplomatic insiders.

Asia on Edge: What This Means for Taiwan

While Trump has hosted leaders from India and Japan, his approach to China remains uncertain. Analysts fear that his pro-Russia stance could embolden Beijing to take more aggressive action toward Taiwan.

Ryan Hass, Director of the John L. Thornton China Center at Brookings, warned that Taiwan should be deeply concerned:

“Trump’s rewriting of history is troubling. If he won’t defend Ukraine, why would he defend Taiwan?”

A recent social media post from a Japanese security analyst went viral, stating:

“Russia is teaming up with China and North Korea. If the U.S. aligns with Russia, can Japan still trust the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty?”

The fears of American allies in Asia are growing, with some even suggesting that Japan should pursue nuclear weapons in case the U.S. abandons its security commitments.

A World in Flux: Is Trump Redefining U.S. Foreign Policy?

Trump insists that his administration is making a “decisive break” from past U.S. foreign policy. His “America First” doctrine prioritizes bilateral deals over alliances, shifting away from traditional democratic values toward transactional diplomacy.

Critics argue that this hands global leadership to China and Russia on a silver platter.

With Europe questioning America’s reliability, Asia on high alert, and Moscow and Beijing celebrating, the world stands at a crossroads. Will Trump’s approach lead to stability or chaos?

Only time will tell.
