The 218-214 House vote came after an intense political standoff, all-night negotiations, and a near nine-hour filibuster-style speech from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who condemned the legislation as “one big, ugly bill” that harms ordinary Americans.
“One of the most consequential Bills ever. The USA is the ‘HOTTEST’ Country in the World, by far!!!” Trump declared on social media following the vote.

The 869-page mega-bill, which now heads to Trump’s desk for signing on Independence Day, delivers on core Trump campaign promises:
Speaker Mike Johnson called it a foundation for “America’s new Golden Age,” while critics warned it would add $3.4 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade.
While conservatives hailed the bill’s defense and tax provisions, it faces harsh criticism over its historic cuts to social safety nets:
These elements have stoked fears among moderate Republicans, some of whom worry about re-election prospects amid growing voter dissatisfaction.
With fiscal hawks demanding deeper spending cuts and centrists alarmed over public backlash, the vote required intricate maneuvering. Johnson and Trump spent weeks negotiating, lobbying, and pressuring undecided lawmakers.
Despite this, opposition remains vocal.
“This disgusting abomination is not about improving the quality of life of the American people,” said Jeffries, who anchored Democratic resistance in the House.
The bill’s cancellation of green energy and EV subsidies has also ignited a public spat between Trump and Elon Musk, once a vocal supporter.
Democrats are counting on the bill’s unpopularity with low- and middle-income voters to gain momentum for the 2026 midterm elections, potentially using it as a rallying cry to flip the House.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to consolidate power over the GOP, bolstered by recent Supreme Court wins and foreign policy breakthroughs like the Iran-Israel ceasefire.
