Iran’s Parliament Speaker highlights deep-rooted mistrust despite engaging in talks, casting doubt on any immediate breakthrough.

April 12, 2026: Iran’s Parliament Speaker said that while Tehran entered negotiations with “good faith and will,” it continues to have “no trust” in the opposing side, reflecting the outcome of recently concluded talks with the United States. Citing experiences from past conflicts, the Speaker underscored that historical grievances remain a major barrier, preventing confidence-building despite diplomatic engagement.

The Speaker noted that Iran’s delegation presented forward-looking proposals during the discussions, but these failed to bridge the trust deficit. The remarks indicate that while dialogue channels remain open, fundamental differences and scepticism continue to shape Tehran’s approach, limiting the chances of any immediate agreement.

He also praised Pakistan for its role in facilitating the talks, calling it a “friendly and brotherly country.” Emphasising domestic unity, the Speaker said the nation stands firmly behind its leadership, reinforcing Iran’s position of cautious engagement backed by strong internal support.
