February 8, 2025: A missing Cessna aircraft operated by Bering Air and carrying nine passengers and a pilot has been found, the US Coast Guard (USCG) announced on Friday. The plane, which disappeared on Thursday while flying from Unalakleet to Nome, Alaska, tragically claimed the lives of all 10 aboard, according to USCG reports.

The wreckage was located approximately 34 miles southeast of Nome. Three bodies were recovered and “reported to be deceased,” while the remaining seven are believed to still be inside the aircraft but are currently inaccessible due to its damaged condition.
“USCG has ended its search for the missing plane after the aircraft was located approximately 34 miles southeast of Nome. Our heartfelt condolences are with those affected by this tragic incident,” the agency shared in a statement.

Details of the Incident
The ill-fated flight reportedly experienced a “rapid loss in elevation and speed,” according to Lt. Commander Benjamin McIntyre-Coble of the US Coast Guard. The search for the plane was delayed by harsh weather and poor visibility but resumed on Friday under improved conditions. National Guard and Coast Guard teams utilized helicopters to locate the wreckage.
Efforts and Reactions
Fire crews and search teams conducted exhaustive ground and aerial searches from Nome to Topkok. Details about the passengers, who were all adults, have not been disclosed. Families of those aboard were notified, confirmed Alaska State Troopers Lt. Ben Endres during a press briefing.
Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy expressed his condolences, stating, “Our prayers are with the passengers, the pilot, and their loved ones during this difficult time.”
