UAE Leading Global Innovation in Rain Enhancement, Says Climate Expert
Abu Dhabi, January 30: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is playing a pioneering global role in enhancing rainfall through cutting-edge cloud seeding technologies, according to Luca Delle Monache, Director of Research at the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E).
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at the International Rain Enhancement Forum, Monache praised the UAE’s commitment to innovation in weather modification and called the event a significant platform for global experts to share advancements in the field.
Monache highlighted the latest technological advancements presented during the conference, particularly the role of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the future of cloud seeding.
“Drones offer significant advantages in improving efficiency and precision compared to traditional cloud-seeding methods,” he noted.
These autonomous aircraft have the potential to enhance cloud targeting and optimize seeding efforts, making the process more effective and cost-efficient.
Monache also discussed his award-winning research project, funded under the fourth cycle of the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science. Now in its third year, the project is entering its final stages, with completion expected by August 2025.
With its continued investments in climate research and water sustainability, the UAE is positioning itself as a global leader in rain enhancement, paving the way for innovative solutions to water scarcity challenges worldwide.
