US Asks India, Pakistan to "Identify Methods to De-Escalate": Rubio Tells Jaishankar
New Delhi, May 10 – As tensions between India and Pakistan remain at a boiling point, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged both nations to find ways to de-escalate the military standoff and avert further deterioration of bilateral relations.
In a conversation with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, the senior US official and close aide to President Donald Trump stated that both sides must actively “identify methods to de-escalate” and resume dialogue.
Rubio’s intervention follows a wave of cross-border hostilities, including drone and missile strikes, after India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.
The US Department of State has reiterated its willingness to facilitate “constructive talks” between the two nuclear-armed nations.
“We are concerned about the escalating conflict in the region. Dialogue and diplomacy must take precedence. Both sides must identify viable paths to reduce tensions,” Rubio told Jaishankar, according to a State Department spokesperson.
This outreach comes amid coordinated efforts by Washington to speak with both sides. Rubio also spoke to Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir on Friday, conveying similar concerns and offering US assistance in crisis diplomacy.
The White House had earlier confirmed that President Trump is closely monitoring the situation and has expressed a desire for “rapid de-escalation.”
