US Conducts Airstrikes on ISIS in Somalia, Trump Declares ‘We Will Find and Kill You’
Washington, D.C., February 2 – The United States military launched precision airstrikes on ISIS terrorists in Somalia’s Golis Mountain region on Saturday, eliminating multiple operatives. The strikes were conducted under the direct orders of President Donald Trump, according to US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Trump announced the operation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the airstrikes targeted senior ISIS planners and their recruits who were hiding in caves.
“This morning, I ordered precision military airstrikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia. These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they lived in and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians,” Trump wrote.
Trump also criticized former President Joe Biden, accusing him of failing to act quickly against ISIS.
“Our military has targeted this ISIS Attack Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that We WILL FIND You, AND We WILL KILL YOU,” he added.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized that the airstrikes had significantly weakened ISIS’s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks against the US, its allies, and innocent civilians.
“These strikes degrade ISIS’s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians. They send a clear signal that the United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists who threaten the US and our allies, even as we conduct robust border-protection and other operations under President Trump’s leadership,” Hegseth stated.
While Trump has been vocal about aggressively targeting terrorist groups, he has also advocated for a limited US role in Middle Eastern conflicts. According to The Hill, Trump has previously warned terrorist groups while also suggesting a reduced US presence in Syria.
“We’re not involved in Syria. Syria’s its own mess. They’ve got enough messes over there. They don’t need us involved in every one,” Trump told reporters on Thursday.
The US airstrikes in Somalia mark a significant escalation in counterterrorism operations under Trump’s leadership, reaffirming his aggressive stance against ISIS. As tensions rise in global counterterrorism efforts, the impact of these strikes on ISIS’s operations remains to be seen.
