US Open Super 300: Can Tanvi Sharma Clinch Historic Titles for India?

June 29, 2025: India’s badminton stars Tanvi Sharma and Ayush Shetty have made history by reaching the finals of the US Open Super 300, marking a major moment for Indian badminton on the BWF World Tour.

Tanvi Sharma: Youngest Indian in a BWF World Tour Final

At just 16 years old, Tanvi Sharma became the youngest Indian shuttler to reach the final of a BWF World Tour event, stunning seventh seed Polina Buhrova of Ukraine 21-14, 21-16 in the semifinals in just 34 minutes.

Currently ranked World No. 66 in the senior circuit and No. 2 in the juniors, Tanvi has taken down higher-ranked opponents including Thuy Linh Nguyen (WR-23) and Pitchamon Opatniputh (WR-58) en route to the final. Remarkably, she played without a coach at courtside, with fellow shuttler Ayush Shetty stepping into the coach’s chair.

“Her aggressive shot variety and fast court coverage left Buhrova scrambling,” said an observer at the match.

Tanvi now faces top seed Beiwen Zhang of the USA in the final. If she wins, she will become the youngest Indian ever to win a BWF World Tour title.

Ayush Shetty: Gunning for His First BWF World Tour Crown

In the men’s singles, Ayush Shetty also made headlines by defeating World No. 6 Chou Tien Chen in a dramatic semifinal battle. After losing the first game 21-23, Shetty rallied to take the match 21-15, 21-14 in 67 minutes.

This marks Shetty’s first BWF World Tour final, following a third-place finish at the Orleans Masters earlier this year. He will face Brian Yang of Canada in the final, with hopes of breaking India’s 2025 men’s singles title drought.

🇮🇳 A Historic Double in Sight

With both Indian singles finalists reaching the summit clash in a major global event, Sunday night could mark a turning point for the new generation of Indian badminton. Victory for either would not only deliver titles but also send a powerful message ahead of the upcoming World Tour events and Paris 2024 buildup.

Stay tuned for what could be a golden night for Indian badminton.
