Varun Chakravarthy Reflects on His Best Bowling Performance as India Crushes England 4-1 in T20I Series
Mumbai, February 3 – India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy described his performance against England in the T20I series as his best bowling effort yet, while also emphasizing the need for continuous improvement.
His three-wicket haul played a crucial role in India’s dominant 150-run victory in the 5th and final T20I at Wankhede Stadium, sealing a 4-1 series triumph for the Men in Blue.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Chakravarthy expressed satisfaction with both his bowling and fielding efforts, which had been a focus area for him.
“I’m happy that the fielding also drew some applause. The team has been emphasizing improving fielding standards, and I’ve been working hard with fielding coach Mr. Dilip. This is the best I’ve bowled, but there’s still a lot of scope for improvement. I bowled a few bad balls that I shouldn’t have, so it’s about working on delivering the right ball at the right time.”
He dedicated his performance and ‘Player of the Series’ award to his wife, son, and parents, and thanked captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir for backing him throughout the series.
“This is very special. I would like to dedicate it to my son, my wife, and my parents. I’d also like to thank Surya and GG for backing me as well.”
Winning the toss, England opted to bowl first, only to face a batting masterclass from Abhishek Sharma.
🔹 Abhishek Sharma (135 off 54 balls, 7 fours, 13 sixes) smashed the fastest T20I century by an Indian in just 10.1 overs and registered the highest individual score for India in T20Is, surpassing Shubman Gill’s 126*.
🔹 India posted a mammoth 247/9 in 20 overs, with Brydon Carse (3 wickets) and Mark Wood (2 wickets) leading England’s bowling attack.
Despite a fighting effort from Philip Salt (55 off 23 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes), England’s batting order crumbled under India’s relentless bowling attack.
✅ Varun Chakravarthy (3/16), Abhishek Sharma (3/14), and Shivam Dube (3/20) dismantled England’s lineup, bundling them out for just 97 in 11 overs.
🏆 Player of the Match – Abhishek Sharma for his explosive 135-run knock and 3-wicket spell.
🏆 Player of the Series – Varun Chakravarthy for his consistent bowling contributions.
India’s commanding series win sends a strong message ahead of the T20 World Cup, showcasing their aggressive batting firepower and sharp bowling attack.
